Storms hit four U.S. states so far

Over the weekend, tornadoes hit several small towns in East Texas, killing four people.

Authorities say two people have died in flooding in Arkansas, raising the death toll from weekend storms in that state to three.

The storms caused floods in neighboring states, killing a 72-year-old woman in southwestern Missouri who was washed away in her auto, according to local media reports.

Flooding that could be record breaking in eastern Oklahoma, northern Arkansas, Missouri and IL was expected to take several days to recede, it said.

At this time, there have been four confirmed deaths related to Saturdays storms and multiple injuries were sustained.

"Victim Melanie Espinoza Rodriguez (was) transported to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead", the police department said. The middle of Tennessee was hit by storms that toppled trees and power lines.

In Arkansas, emergency workers were searching for two children - a 4 year old and an 18 month old - after the vehicle they were traveling in with their mother was swept off the road in Hindsville, Madison County, Saturday afternoon.

In Arkansas, a woman was killed when a tree fell on her mobile home in DeWitt, and a 10-year-old girls was killed after flood waters swept her away in Springdale, ABC News reported. The 72-year-old woman was a passenger in a vehicle that was swept of a highway in Christian County.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted that the Texas Task Force 2 search and rescue team had been dispatched to help the city and surrounding Van Zandt County.

In Mississippi, at least two people were killed, including a 7-year-old boy who was electrocuted.

"We spent Saturday night serving coffee and refreshments at the Canton High School where a hastily prepared triage was set up for those injured by the tornado", Stephen Thomas, the director of the Salvation Army Lewisville Service Center and disaster volunteer said in a press release. One of two deaths in MS included a 7-year-old who was electrocuted after unplugging an electric golf cart and dropping the cord in water on the ground.

"It is heartbreaking and upsetting, to say the least", the mayor said.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said Monday that several sections of the stretch of I-44 between Rolla and Lebanon are underwater.

I-70 in Kansas was closed due to a "rare late-season blizzard" that has dumped 3-4 inches of snow with strong winds.

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens said over 30 rescues have been conducted and some residents have been told to evacuate.

In Texas, search teams were going door to door after the tornadoes the day before flattened homes, uprooted trees and flipped pick-up trucks at a Dodge dealership in Canton.

Here in Texas, National Weather Service crews from Fort Worth will return to East Texas to survey areas struck by tornadoes. The largely rural area is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) east of Dallas.

Officials said the Canton tornado was at least a half-mile wide as it moved through town, striking nearby Emory and Fruitvale.
