Arsenal loss focused Man United minds on Europa League

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has reacted to his side's defeat at the Emirate Stadium on Sunday by Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.

United can qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League and they may well need to do exactly that after surrendering their 25-match unbeaten run in the emier League.

The 31-year-old has seen his importance to the first team diminish under manager Jose Mourinho this term and has made only 12 starts in the Premier League. Today, I tried to win.

"But, obviously, everything for Thursday". I tweeted during the game that it was like a testimonial, and it was certainly played at that kind of pace - which is what you would expect from a pre-season friendly between two Premier League teams played in the United States.

"We had a disappointing result last week and we needed to pick it back up". "I like very much the individual performances and I also like collectively". It's more important than finishing fourth'. They had the luck of that goal, and we didn't score before them.

"They are always up for it against us".

"I think [Phil] Jones, [Chris] Smalling, [Juan] Mata, they were wonderful in the way they performed".

"The kid, the same".

After a boring start to the second half, the Emirates came alive when Xhaka ran into space and took a shot from 30 yards out which was helped on its way by Herrera and out-smarted De Gea.

Mourinho, though, refused to criticise the Spaniard.

But while Wenger admits he was surprised by his players, the Frenchman insists their focus and concentration on the game was not affected.

Paul Clement says Swansea won't waste Premier League lifeline
Swansea City climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone with an excellent win over Everton on Saturday afternoon . But the lead was nearly doubled after 54 minutes when Sigurdsson drove his mis-hit shot into a crowded area.

"We have shown on any one day we can beat anyone so if we could get in the Champions League we know we could be a match for anyone", he said. But they were fantastic.

"This game is a plus for them".

"We have got to win the last two", Milner told British media.

It is only a matter of time before an English manager wins the Premier League title, says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. It's the first time. I don't think they're desperate.

It felt like a veterans game but if Martin and I were playing each other now, there would have been more sparks flying than there were at the Emirates. "So finally today they sing, they (swing) the scarves - it's nice for them".

Asked about Arsenal finally tasting victory against him, Mourinho said: "It's a big club". You think I enjoy a big club like Arsenal not winning trophies?

Congratulations on your inconsequential victory, I hope it brings you great joy for many years to come.

The Switzerland global has been sent off nine times in the last three years and has picked up 11 bookings for Arsenal this season, with manager Arsene Wenger questioning his tackling technique on more than one occasion.

"Normal is win, lose, draw".
