Isaiah Crowell signs RFA tender

While Crowell and the Browns reportedly hit a stalemate in contract negotiations back in January, the 5-foot-11, 225-pound running back could set himself up for a big payday with a strong season in 2017.

The Cleveland Browns signed one of the more underrated running backs in football Wednesday, inking Isaiah Crowell to his second-round tender.

ESPN reported in March that at least three other teams inquired about the Browns running back. Cleveland placed a second round tender on Crowell before free agency.

Originally signed by the Brows as an undrafted free agent in 2014, Crowell has rushed for 2,265 yards and 19 touchdowns without missing a game in 3 seasons. The tender given to him by Cleveland would have entitled the team to a second-round draft pick in compensation should Crowell have left in free agency by signing an offer sheet with another team.

Year three was the best season in the 24-year old's career. In addition he found the endzone seven times. He also caught 40 targets for 319 yards, which were both career bests as well.

The Browns revamped their offensive line this offseason, signing ex-Bengals blocker Kevin Zeitler to a record guard contract and adding J.C. Tretter to play center from the Packers. Player attendance is optional. He will be required to participate in the team's mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 13-15. The Browns organized team activities is starts on May 22.

Late last season, coach Hue Jackson called Crowell "a key to our future".
