Police chief, 2 nursing home employees killed; gunman dead

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said during a second press conference that the shooter was from Utica and warrants have been obtained for his home and a pair of vehicles. Authorities secured a search warrant to search the auto, another vehicle and the suspect's home in Utica.

Minutes before a man killed the Kirkersville police chief and two employees of a nursing home, he took two passersby hostage in a wooded area behind the nursing home.

Three people and the suspected gunman have been found dead after a shooting at a nursing home in Ohio.

"I remember he had given candy to the kids and it was just so sweet because he was new you know so, this is just our gratitude to say thank you for protecting all of us".

The Licking County coroner says autopsy results likely wouldn't be released until Sunday. But a new co-worker quickly returned to the basement, telling them someone was shooting upstairs.

"She ran for our door and he drove in the yard". He and his wife have six children, with a seventh one on the way. In court documents filed a week ago, Medrano said she feared for her life, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Some residents had barricaded themselves in various places, police said.

Violence rarely touches the small village, where most residents grow corn or soy beans on nearby farms or commute to larger cities like Columbus for work, lifelong resident Mark Van Buren said. The hostages escaped unharmed, as did all 23 residents of the nursing home. She called 911 before sending a text message to tell her mother that she was safe.

In reaction to the tragic event, U.S. Sen. "We're so glad she's safe".

Police say the suspect killed Kirkersville Chief Steven Eric Disario and two female employees at Pine Kirk Care Center. DiSario had been the chief for only three weeks. Authorities say Steven Eric Disario, who headed the Kirkersv.

The police chief was 36.

The gunman is also dead, authorities said, but how he died was not immediately clear.

He later shook hands with well-wishers on the Champs Elysees, not far from where a policeman was shot dead by a gunman in April. After he ascends the red carpet, Macron will hold a private meeting with Hollande which could roughly last about half an hour.

"Very unfortunate tragedy", Thorp said.

Thorp said a weapon has not been recovered yet.

VanRunkle said the the Ohio Health Care Association is aware of the risks nursing homes face and provides active-shooter training.

He said she would give neighborhood children ice cream and round them up to take them to Sunday school.

The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading an inquiry into what happened.

He said he saw people "running" from the Pine Kirk Care Center.

In addition to Disario, the two other victims have been identified as Marlina Medrano and Cindy J. Krantz, 43, both of whom were employees at the nursing home. No one answered a phone call to the nursing home this morning.

The police officer killed is from the Kirkersville department, according to 10TV.

Police are also interviewing witnesses from inside the nursing home.

Chris Roush also lives on E. Main Street near the nursing home. "We heard yelling, we heard the gunshots, then it was just sirens". "Then I walked out on the porch and about that time the squad and police were everywhere", Milam said. Parents should NOT head to the elementary school.

A primary school near the shooting scene was placed on lockdown, and classes were later cancelled for the day.
