Robison: Cyber-attack on Scots NHS 'isolated'

The National Cyber Security Centre is working with all organisations here in the United Kingdom that have been affected and that's very important.

Private security firms identified the ransomware as a new variant of "WannaCry" that could spread across large networks by exploiting a known bug in Microsoft's Windows operating system.

The revelation came as the home secretary Amber Rudd confirmed today that as many as 48 NHS trusts had been affected by the large-scale cyber-hack by an global criminal gang wreaked havoc around the country. The office that oversees Brazil's National Intelligence Agency put out a statement saying there's no indication that government archives have been affected.

Lawrence Abrams of BleepingComputer.com in NY says many organizations don't install security upgrades because they're anxious about triggering bugs, or they can't afford the downtime.

A spokesman for Barts Health NHS Trust in London said it was experiencing "major IT disruption" and delays at all four of its hospitals. The NHS has said hospitals have had to cancel some outpatient appointments because of the attack.

Capitalising on spying tools believed to have been developed by the US National Security Agency, the cyber assault has infected tens of thousands of computers in almost 100 countries, with Britain's health system suffering the worst disruptions.

More than 75,000 computers in 99 countries were compromised in Friday's attack, with a heavy concentration of infections in Russian Federation and Ukraine, according to Dutch security company Avast Software BV.

National Health Service: At least sixteen NHS organizations have been hit, according to NHS Digital. Omer Fatih Sayan said the country's cyber security center is continuing operations against the malicious software.
