Senate Intelligence Committee subpoenas Flynn's records on Russian Federation

"James Comey better hope that there are no tapes of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

However, nothing was immediately done to remove Flynn as the national security adviser, even after reports that Obama himself had warned Trump of the peril of appointing Flynn to the super-sensitive post.

The subpoena was announced a day after Mr Trump abruptly fired FBI director James Comey, who had been leading the bureau's investigation of Russian Federation and the election.

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has ordered former White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to hand over records related to the Russian Federation investigation, according to a statement on the committee's website.

Yates, a veteran civil service official who was herself fired by Trump for ordering the Justice Department not to defend in court the new president's ban on travelers from certain Muslim nations, told the Senate Judiciary Committee that the Trump White House brushed off her warning that Flynn was vulnerable to Russian blackmail. Instead, Mr. Comey has recounted to others, he told Mr. Trump that he would always be honest with him, but that he was not "reliable" in the conventional political sense. You know that, I know that.

Arsenal shudder as Spurs surpass them
The 35th fixture of the English Premier League has been played this weekend, and many numbers and facts have been recorded. Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen in action with Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey at White Hart Lane.

Representative Jim Himes, a Connecticut Democrat who is a member of the House intelligence committee that is also investigating Russian meddling in the election, said access to such financial records is one of the reasons lawmakers have been clamouring for Trump to release his tax returns.

Trump flatly said that he had chose to fire Comey even before receiving a recommendation from the deputy attorney general.

"He wanted to stay on at the FBI", Trump said, "and I said I'll, you know, consider and see what happens But we had a very nice dinner, and at that time he told me, 'You are not under investigation". The President admitted, "I actually asked him, yes".

But Mr Burr also said the committee would continue to press ahead with its investigation wherever it leads.

"I never thought about it", Mr Trump said when asked about meeting with Russians the next day.
