Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown wins Best Actor; full winners list inside

MTV abolished gender-specific categories for its acting awards this year, giving the honor for best actor in a movie to Emma Watson for "Beauty and the Beast".

The star, who is a devoted gender equality activist, took home the Best Actor award for Beauty and the Beast during the ceremony and noted that the prize was the first of its kind - as the category does not separate men and women.

Another English actress, Millie Bobby Brown, 13, won the best actor in a TV show award for the sci-fi show "Stranger Things".

However, Piers Morgan mocked Watson's speech.

She thanked Billions star Asia Kate Dillon, who identifies as gender non-binary and presented Watson with the award, for educating her "in such an inclusive, patient, and loving way". There were also some new categories like Trending, Best American Story, and Next Generation. But to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes. That award show is as stuffy as it gets, and has-time and again-proven that it's resistant to change and the evolving tastes of the film audience.

Next, the Best Kiss Award was given to the only gay kissing couple nominated. "We wouldn't be here without you guys, so we might not say it enough, we love you and thank you everyone who voted".
