Trump says he could name Federal Bureau of Investigation head by next week

"We can make a fast decision", Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One before flying to Lynchburg, Virginia, to deliver a commencement address at Liberty University.

Trump warning to former FBI Director James Comey against leaking anything negative about him-tweeting "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"-is deeply troubling".

However, sources have told Fox News that at least one additional candidate is being interviewed Saturday - Adam Lee, the special agent in charge at the FBI's Richmond office.

Trump said the candidates were "outstanding people" and "very well known".

Trump is considering 11 people to replace Comey, a White House official said.

When asked whether he could announce a nominee by Friday, when he is scheduled to leave for the Middle East and Europe on his first trip overseas as president, Trump responded, "Even that is possible". John Cornyn of Texas, attorney Alice Fisher and Judge Michael Garcia for the permanent position.

The candidates interviewing Saturday are among a almost a dozen being considered, the AP reported.

Another English actress, Millie Bobby Brown , 13, won the best actor in a TV show award for the sci-fi show " Stranger Things ". In particular, MTV TV & Movie Awards isn't the first professional event to introduce gender-neutral nominations.

McCabe contradicted Trump this week, telling lawmakers that Comey enjoyed widespread support among the FBI's rank and file, and that the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the election was a "highly significant investigation".

Fisher headed the Justice Department's criminal division, also under Bush.

Garcia served as assistant secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and United States attorney under former president George W. Bush.

Other candidates include former NY police commissioner Raymond Kelly, former Republican senator Kelly Ayotte, and South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor who headed the Benghazi investigation in the House.

Trump's nominee must be confirmed in the Senate, where Democrats and some Republicans have fiercely criticized Comey's firing, which came on Tuesday. "Nearly all of them are very well known", Trump said aboard the plane that took him to Lynchburg, Virginia, where he gave the commencement address at Liberty University.

The FBI has never had a female director. The New York Times reported Thursday that Trump asked Comey to pledge his loyalty to the president and that Comey refused. Federal Bureau of Investigation directors serve 10-year terms but can be removed at any time by the president, as Comey was this week.

Cornyn, who appears to have not interviewed yet, is the second-ranking Senate Republican and a strong defender of Trump, a president who often places a premium on loyalty.
