DA announces charges against Penn State frat, 18 members

A grand jury investigation of the incident - aided by video footage turned over to police - found that Piazza's pals had failed to get him help before he died hours later at Hershey Medical Center. That drinking was directed by his soon to be fraternity.

"This has been a very intense investigation", Parks Miller said, according to a report on PennLive.com, a sister website to NJ.com.

"All indicators suggested Beta Theta Phi was a model fraternity - the house, privately-owned and situated like all other fraternity houses on private property, was handsome, the subject of a multi-million dollar renovation; both the Beta alumni and the national organization provided strict rules of behavior; and, the brothers had a no alcohol policy which stated that anyone caught drinking would be expelled", Barron said.

Parks Miller alleged there were efforts to cover up what had happened at the fraternity house to hide the hazing rituals, The Patriot-News reported.

Penn State has permanently banned Beta Theta Pi, citing evidence of hazing, forced drinking and other illegal activity. They estimate that each pledge consumed four to five drinks of wine, beer, and hard alcohol within two minutes.

Eighteen students studying at a prestigious American university have been charged in connection with the death of a fellow student in a drunken fraternity "hazing".

"Our thoughts continue to lie with the Piazza family as the justice process moves forward", Penn State's Interfraternity Council said in a statement Friday.

Piazza died two days later.

His chest was bare, he was breathing heavy and he had blood on his face, according to the presentment.

Jim Piazza made the comments at a news conference Friday after charges against Beta Theta Pi and 18 frat brothers were announced by the Centre County district attorney. According to NBC News, it started with a drinking competition called "the gauntlet" in which Piazza and other pledges drank copious amounts of alcohol-despite Beta Theta Pi supposedly being a dry frat.

We suffered until the end and it was open until the last second. "That is our expectation, that is our idea. I win some, I lose some. "But obviously, like we did against Arsenal, we didn't throw the match away".

When a new pledge got upset and asked others to call 911 for help, they said he was being insane as they had the situation in control. ABC News noted that while all fraternity members charged with involuntary manslaughter were arraigned on Friday, a few additional defendants will be arraigned early next week.

"The alleged details in the grand jury presentment, which suggest the inhumane treatment of a student forced through hazing to consume unsafe amounts of alcohol and endure hours of suffering, are sickening and hard to understand", it read.

"This was in a fraternity house, but don't mistake the fact of it being at a fraternity house for the chilling, numbing, facts, which are in this investigative report by the grand jury", Kline said Saturday.

Footage throughout the night shows Piazza rolling around, moving and vomiting.

"The best way to shift culture is for students, alumni, and the university to work together", the statement read.

Horras said he is meeting with the Penn State president next month. Bream was employed by the fraternity as an adviser.

According to the investigation, Piazza was attending and drinking at a bid-acceptance ceremony when he fell down a set of stairs.

Michael Angelo Schiavone, Craig Heimer, Lars Kenyon, Parker Jax Yochim will be charged with reckless endangerment charges and more. He said if people are willing to hid what is happening at fraternities and sororities, there is no way for the university to know what is going on.

The fraternity organization was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
