Cristiano Ronaldo's double takes Real Madrid closer to title

The win moves Real Madrid up to 90 points - three ahead of Barcelona at the top of the table.

This is the fourth time this season that Real face Celta.

The ill feeling increased when Celta were denied a penalty for a handball by Raphael Varane towards the end of the first half which saw Aspas booked for dissent.

Isco added: "We have come through another final and now we just have one final push at La Rosaleda, which will be just as tough as this game".

"We played with a very good attitude, with a lot of determination and personality", Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said.

Celta put up a courageous fight in this rearranged fixture, even when reduced to 10 men for the final 30 minutes, but in the end Real proved too strong and now require just one point from their trip to Malaga on Sunday. We head to Malaga with real hope and are raring to secure the title.

The Judiciary Committee is also expected to hold hearings tied to Russia's election interference, leaders said in a release. The person had seen the memo but was not authorized to discuss it by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Do you think Ronaldo is the greatest ever goalscorer in the game? And boy, has that plan worked out perfectly.

Ronaldo partnered Karim Benzema up front, with Isco supporting the two forwards. Collecting possession from just outside the box, Ronaldo took a touch before unleashing an unstoppable shot past Celta Vigo keeper Sergio Alvarez - with his so-called weaker left foot.

"We are happy with the job we have done here and were deserved winners from start to finish". It was deadly finishing of the highest quality.

A little rest has done Cristiano Ronaldo a lot of good.

Nearly as an afterthought, Ronaldo's double on the night took him to 368 goals in league competition for Manchester United and Madrid.

The Portugal worldwide struck his 367th goal in the first half of Wednesday's encounter, surpassing Jimmy Greaves as the most prolific ever scorer in Europe's top five leagues, and added a second soon after. This was all about ensuring Ronaldo and his side remain on course for the title. Indeed there is much to be done to close the gap, and it must be done right this time. "We know it will be a hard game, but we are going to try and play at 100 percent to win it". Ramos was erratic at centre-back, but the captain is sure to keep his place.

And he stood up for himself after the match, claiming the two goals he netted earlier in the game were what interested him most.
