Google unveils latest tech tricks as computers get smarter

"Google has the most personal information, [and] does the processing in the cloud, so I think right now they have the richest consumer AI capabilities". To help it go toe to toe with Amazon in the home, new Google Home features include the ability to handle transactions, along with "proactive assistance" which will allow the speaker to alert users to important issues such as calendar appointments, traffic congestion requiring earlier departure times and flight delays. Siri has come as a built-in service on iPhones since 2011; Google's assistant will require an app download. Google is about to provide the latest peek at its digital services and gadgets as it seeks to become an even more influential force in people's lives.

The announcement heralds a step by Google, whose Android system runs on the majority of the world's smartphones, to get a foothold on Apple's phones, which have smaller market share but are used by people who tend to spend more on technology.

In addition, the company announced that it will offer physical photo albums through its photo app.

Google has introduced new tools for developers such as system optimisations, background apps limits, and Android Vitals Dashboards in the Play Console.

The goal is to bypass the tedious processes of manually selecting photographs and individual sharing them by allowing users to automatically share photos with assigned contacts, suggested by Google's own advanced machine learning algorithms. It'll basically make apps a bit lighter - and Google Play Store will promote apps and games created to run on low-end devices.

With Google Home, users will be able to access the full range of the Google Assistant's features on connected LG appliances. For instance, you can ask the digital assistant within Home to turn on the dishwasher or set the temperature on the oven.

Google's new Lens tool is the stuff of science fiction.

While the specifics are still to be confirmed Google also mentioned on stage that more of the Google Assistant Actions would be moving onto the phone. Google will also let you share whole photo libraries with others. Notification Dots is a new way for developers to notify users about about activity on the app, driving engagement. Here's what Google said it will be adding to Android O, the next major version of this OS, which is expected to ship by the end of 2017.

Autofill. Chrome's Autofill feature is coming to Android. A feature called Google Play Protect, meanwhile, will scan all your apps for malicious software. "But what will improve is how well these apps relate to the individual". The company also announced a new optimized SKU of the OS, known as Android Go, for low-priced devices with the most modest specs, including as little as 512MB of RAM. But it's not going to do it with today's Android operating system designed for premium devices in the U.S. and Europe.

Under Android Go, Android O will ship with optimizations for handsets featuring 1GB of RAM and less.

"With AI, all the apps are getting upgraded so they don't need new hardware". Instant Apps use the same code as existing Play Store apps with a few adjustments.
