Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal confirms plans to discuss future

From a purely Chelsea standpoint, it might be beneficial if Huddersfield go up, as they might be willing to take Brown or Palmer on loan once more and provide them with some valuable Premier League experience.

A finely-balanced tie could have shifted in favour of the visitors dramatically on 38 minutes when Wells went to ground after contract from keeper Keiren Westwood as they competed for Tommy Smith's cross but referee Andre Marriner rejected the penalty appeals without hesitation.

Huddersfield's fire had been doused by Wednesday not just in the first leg but also in the team's three meetings prior to that but Izzy Brown should have blazed a trail to goal for them in the 25th minute when Wells pinged in a cross from the left.

The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 after extra-time.

Goalkeeper Danny Ward - on load from EPL giants Liverpool - proved Huddersfield's hero by saving spot-kicks by Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri in the sudden death shootout.

With a further half and hour to be played, both sides had chances to win the game.

But Huddersfield equalised through a 73rd minute own goal by Wednesday defender Tom Lees.

Huddersfield hit back with a rally of their own after the interval and Wells fired into the side netting from an acute angle, which was met with loud roars from the away end, who thought the ball had sneaked in. Jordan Rhodes then saw his shot saved by an inspired Danny Ward, who got down low to save the Scottish striker's effort. Ward saved the decisive penalty, denying Fernando Forestieri to send Huddersfield Town to Wembley.

Hutchinson set the tone for the hosts with a wobbly penalty effort which put Wednesday on the back foot following early successful attempts from Chris Lowe and Michael Hefele.
