Tornadoes strike from Texas to Wisconsin

In western Oklahoma, a tornado ripped through Beckham County and killed one person.

According to the National Weather Service, almost 300 preliminary severe weather reports filed in from Wisconsin to Texas, spanning Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday.

First Baptist Church of Elk City is opening a shelter for people affected by Tuesday's storms.

One man, 53-year-old Bo Mikles, was killed while apparently fleeing his home in his truck, which was thrown several hundred feet, said Danny Ringer, the Elk City Fire Department chaplain. The Wisconsin Department of Emergency Management said about 40 trailers were destroyed, while 50 to 60 homes occupied the park, the sheriff said.

Mary Fallin said in a statement. That's just north of Eau Claire. More than 25 people were injured, the state said, without giving their conditions.

The tornado damaged the Prairie Lakes Estates trailer park north of Chetek.

Some people said they followed his advice and were caught in major traffic jams on highways in central Oklahoma as a tornadic storm approached Oklahoma City.

50 trailers sat in its path and 17 of them were completely destroyed.

Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland estimated the storm severely damaged more than 75 homes. Cattle have been killed, but he says he has no immediate reports of human injuries. No other injuries were reported.

One person died and at least 25 were injured as a tornado hit the Barron County of the mid-western state of Wisconsin, local media reported on Wednesday, citing local Sheriff Chris Firzgerald.

The violent tornado packing 120-130mph winds went right through the heart of Prairie Lake Estate Mobile Park.

Two hours later than in Wisconsin, the storm hit Oklahoma at 7.15pm on Tuesday. The mobile home park has been declared a total loss.

Across Highway SS from the trailer park, several turkey barns were destroyed, while others just lost chunks of their roofs.

The timeline of the tornado event shows tornado warnings were issued early, giving as much as 30 to 56 minutes of lead-time for residents to take cover.

Scattered tornadoes have been reported in the nation's midsection.

That park was the scene of major devastation after a supercell brought with it hail, wind, rain and a tornado late afternoon on Tuesday.
