Trump allies come up with the wrong response to the Comey bombshell

Instead, the problems stemming from Trump's dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, his reported disclosure of highly classified information to Russian officials and his alleged urging of Comey to end his investigation into now-fired national security adviser Michael Flynn seem destined to shadow him as he travels overseas for the first time. In addition Trump is facing pointed questions about his discussions with Russian diplomats during which he is reported to have disclosed classified information.

On CNN, Gergen said that "from a lay point of view" it appeared Trump was trying to impede the FBI's investigation.

"He is a good guy".

"I hope you can let this go", Trump told Comey, according to a source familiar with the contents of the memo.

Speaking to Russian news agencies on Wednesday Yuri Ushakov, an aide to President Vladimir Putin, would not comment the contents of last week's talks among Trump, Lavrov and Kislyak.

Trump's alleged request to Comey about the Flynn investigation came the day after Flynn was forced to resign after misleading the administration about his contact with Russian officials.

The news that Trump might have leaked classified information to the Russian government, as the Washington Post reported Monday, was perhaps the first time in his scandal-soaked presidency that Republicans on the Hill did not immediately rise to Trump's defense.

"What you have is contemporaneous documentation of Comey's recollection of what the president said", said Bob Bauer, who served as White House counsel under President Barack Obama. Trump "has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn", according to the statement.

Amash tweeted Tuesday night that the allegations in the memo are "incredibly serious" and require Comey to testify in front of the House. A more appropriate solution, Douthat argued, was to remove Trump under the 25th Amendment, which allows the president's cabinet to deem him "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office". So now, such signals are a major issue - not merely of obstruction of justice, but of high crimes and misdemeanors.

Google Android O Beta Now Available
The announcement comes almost a year after GE Appliances unveiled a similar integration with Amazon's Alexa-powered speakers. Android O is a major update for Google's mobile platform, and it's bringing with it a major focus on entry-level devices.

Sen. Marco Rubio said the situation and its distractions are "certainly it's less than ideal, but it is what it is". "I say to all my colleagues in the Senate, history is watching", tweeted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. "Congress really needs to get to the bottom of this". Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.

The White House has denied Comey's account of the meeting, which occurred the day after Flynn's resignation.

"I just want to get the information", Cummings added later. "I want to hear it from him".

"If true, Donald Trump's attempt to influence and intimidate the FBI director to block an investigation is a textbook definition of obstruction of justice and it would be an impeachable offense", Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said.

The intelligence was originally gathered by Israel, the New York Times said, and pertained to an Islamic State plot to hide bombs in laptops to blow up civilian aircraft.

Democrats pointed out that Ryan had called for Democrat Hillary Clinton to be denied classified briefings after Comey concluded a year ago that she was careless in how she handled classified information over her email accounts.

In addition to the letter sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation requesting relevant documents, Chaffetz-a member of Trump's own party who so far has been criticized for not standing up to the president over alleged ethical breaches and conflicts of interest charges-made it clear Tuesday night that he was ready to use the Oversight Committee's authority to secure information on this matter.

"We need the facts", Ryan said at a news conference Wednesday morning.

A memo detailing President Donald Trump's request to shut down an FBI investigation of his ousted national security adviser is a powerful piece of evidence that could be used to build an obstruction of justice case against him.
