1 dead, 25 injured in Barron County

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says at least 20 people were injured when a tornado hit a mobile home park near Chetek in western Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Wis. Gov. Scott Walker declared a state of emergency for three counties in northwestern part of the state following a deadly tornado and damaging storms. Fire Chaplain Danny Ringer told reporters at the scene late Tuesday that one person was known dead from the twister.

According to the National Weather Service, almost 300 preliminary severe weather reports filed in from Wisconsin to Texas, spanning Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday.

Walker's declaration covers Barron, Jackson and Rusk counties. He says some homes and outbuildings have been damaged severely and utility poles and lines are down.

Authorities say at least one person died and an estimated 25 others were injured when a tornado struck a trailer park near Chetek in western Wisconsin.

"I've lived in Oklahoma nearly 50 years", he said. "Between Chetek and Cameron there were several other areas that were damaged but this mobile home park was the center or the hub where most of our destruction is", Sheriff Fitzgerald explained. Throughout Wednesday night, Pritchard says they will continue to monitor keep everyone up to date on the severe weather, to make sure everyone is taking the right safety precautions. Cattle have been killed, but he says he has no immediate reports of human injuries.
