3 injured after fire breaks out at Google conference

The second day of Google's I/O conference was brought to a halt just before 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon when a fire broke out at a Shoreline Amphitheatre concession stand.

Firefighters responded to Shoreline Amphitheatre on reports of a fire inside one of the venue's food service buildings that was contained to the one building, fire officials said.

By the time the fire was extinguished, a total of six people had reportedly suffered injures.

"We're thankful to the fire department for putting it out and ensuring everyone's safety", a Google spokesperson said in a statement. One person had life-threatening injuries, while the other two had less serious injuries, Brown said.

She demanded tough measures "to make social media less of a wild west when it comes to young people's mental health and wellbeing".

The company says the three people who were injured were event staff members and are receiving treatment.

The fire occurred during Google's I/O conference, an annual gathering of developers that has taken place since 2008.

Brown says a flash fire broke out when workers were trying to light a deep-fat fryer.

Google said the event will continue as planned for the rest of Thursday evening and Friday.
