Alonso's vital Indy 500 weapon

Alonso is making a one-off appearance at the Indy 500 on 28 May instead of racing at the Monaco Grand Prix, where he will be replaced by Britain's Jenson Button, who is coming out of retirement for one race.

Fernando Alonso has left Barcelona after his frustrating Spanish Grand Prix to fly to Indianapolis, where he will begin preparations for his debut in the Indy 500.

That said, Alonso isn't yet thinking about making the move to racing in the USA on a more regular basis.

That explains why de Ferran might just be Alonso's key Indy 500 weapon, given that motorsport is a world where all too often the benefits of coaching are overlooked or even derided. "The auto felt quite OK from the very beginning of the morning, but then I think we did improve it during the day, so I'm quite happy. I belong there. Because I'm a racer". "I am happy with the team, but we are not winning". You go out there, you jump in the vehicle, adjust the set-up of the auto, the precision you need with your feedback and the set-up tuning. they change a quarter of a millimeter here, a quarter of a degree there, things that could change the balance of the auto completely, even if four corners seems not too hard. Here I am, a veteran driver, but it's all brand new to me.

Every once in a while when you look up for the best vehicle race drivers you probably must find Spanish pilot Oriol Servia. At the moment for me, the whole event as a driver keeps adding quality, experience and I think I will finish the event as a better driver. Because once race weekend comes around, it's go time.

"I still miss more laps, but we will try to make the most of it on Friday with the more power we have and try to learn from that". I hope the feelings I feel, and the things I see stay in my mind forever.

He was the fourth-fastest driver of the day during Thursday's practice and said he will spend Friday prepping for the traditional four-lap run to earn his spot in the field. Hahaha. I joke, I joke (not really). "I think McLaren will be in the Indy 500 for the future", Alonso said. "If I'm able to enjoy it [at Indy] and I'm able to have another opportunity, why not?"
