Eagles boost McGirt at golf championship

Danny Willett and Rory McIlroy are major doubts for the BMW PGA Championship after suffering from ongoing back problems in the Players Championship, where 54-year-old Vijay Singh was just three shots off the halfway lead.

The Masters champion, who was four over par after six holes on the first day, did falter at the last as he three-putted from close range, but his 67 propelled him 27 places up the leaderboard and right in the mix for a second Players title.

More water trouble at the par-four 18th led to another double-bogey, leaving former world number one Scott three strokes behind.

Holmes started the day one shot off the lead, and he opened with a nondescript run of 10 straight pars.

J.B. Holmes, Alex Noren, Chez Reavie and Jon Rahm are a shot off the pace heading into Friday's second round.

"Good numbers at a good time, made a good swing at a good time", McGirt said.

McGirt made his first eagle with a 55-foot putt at the par-five 11th before sinking a 10-footer at the par-five 16th.

The newlywed world No. 2, who missed nearly two months of action at the start of this year after picking up a rib stress fracture, will undergo a scan on Monday after ongoing problems during the Players Championship.

Spurs Kawhi Leonard misses practice, remains questionable for Game 3
That's the way I process it. "He goes: 'I'm sitting here and I see this black Range Rover, I see all these cops surrounding them. With the Warriors up 2-0 in the series, the Spurs must find a way to win the next two games in San Antonio to make it a series.

Hughes already has won in his first PGA Tour season at Sea Island. Phil Mickelson first competed in The Players Championship as a senior at Arizona State in 1992, the year before Justin Thomas, Daniel Berger and Jordan Spieth were even born.

"I wouldn't have expected a round like that", said Hughes, who has missed four of his last six cuts.

"I've given him some champagne but he tells me he prefers red wine so he'll get some of that as well", Poulter told Sky Sports. His drive on No. 14 sailed well right, the ones on Nos.

This is the fifth time McGirt has held the lead or a share of the lead after 18 holes, but he has yet to convert an opening round lead into a victory. It wasn't just any hole-in-one either.

It gets really jammed behind that group.

Rory McIlroy, of Northern Ireland, reacts to his shot from the ninth tee during the first round of The Players Championship golf tournament Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. I feel like I can distinguish what the difference is between the two, so this, it's just about making sure that there's no, that this left rhomboid doesn't go into spasm and doesn't really tighten up around the joint.

However, with blustery winds making scoring hard on Saturday, the 2008 champion surged up the leaderboard with a third round of 67 containing six birdies, three bogeys and an eagle. "Obviously there's so much water here and there's no real easy recovery from the water". 6, 8 and 9 after his tee shots found the rough.

"I wouldn't have expected a round like that, but I knew my game was trending", said the 26-year-old from Ontario, like McGirt, a one-time PGA Tour victor. "You don't have to be very far off ... my ball landed 3 yards on but if you're 3 yards off, you're making 5". "So just working on that, as I said, but the warm weather helps, it doesn't get, it helps it stay a little looser".
