FBI director candidates paraded past reporters

According to the Politico report, President Donald Trump "bonded with Lieberman" during the selection process, and it doesn't appear "that anyone else is the favorite" at the moment.

Some allies of the president have said he could announce his pick before leaving Friday for a nine-day foreign trip - his first overseas tour as president.

"If you're asked by a president, when the focus of my life has been public service, " Lieberman said, "you really have to give it the most serious consideration - and I did give the United Nations ambassadorship serious consideration".

Since retiring from the Senate in 2012, Lieberman has practiced criminal defense and investigative law at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres and Friedman, a law firm which has represented Trump several times in the past.

Mr. Trump has moved quickly to fill the job since firing James B. Comey last week, which ignited a firestorm of criticism in Washington and new charges that he was interfering with the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

On Wednesday, a growing number of congressional Democrats and Republicans have demanded to see the memo, which has been described to reporters but not made public.

Considered a moderate with ties to members of both parties in Congress, Lieberman was state attorney general from 1983-89 in CT before being elected to the US Senate from 1989-2013. Gore and Lieberman narrowly lost the disputed 2000 election to Republican George W. Bush, and the CT senator mounted his own unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in 2004.
