Jimmy Kimmel returning to host next year's Oscars

"Our Oscars team this year delivered a show that hit every high note", Dawn Hudson, academy's chief executive, said in a statement, New York Times reports.

LOS ANGELES-Late night show host Jimmy Kimmel is getting another chance to host the ideal Academy Awards ceremony after this year's mix-up in the best picture announcement.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also confirmed that producers of the last telecast, Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd, would return.

Kimmel has been roped in to serve as the host for the 90th ceremony next year.

Jokingly taking the blame for the biggest snafu in the history of the Oscars hasn't hurt Jimmy Kimmel one bit. "Mike and Jennifer produced a lovely show that was visually stunning".

The 90th Academy Awards will air on March 4, 2018.

If you watched the Oscars this year, you may remember the big scandal involving the mix-up for the Best Picture award victor.

The 49-year-old talk show host took the reigns for the glitzy award ceremony earlier this year, and Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs loved his performance so much she's hired him to reprise his role next year for the 90th Academy Awards.

Moonlight ended up being awarded the best picture at the Oscars, after La La Land was handed the award in error by presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, who were given the wrong card to read.

De Luca and Todd said jointly in the statement that they were eager to return. "We always thought the idea that anything can happen on the Oscars was a cliché until we lived it".

Ratings will also be top of mind for Todd and De Luca.
