Pelosi Pushes for Independent Commission in Russia Probe

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Wednesday tapped Robert Mueller - a widely-respected figure who headed the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the decade after the 9/11 attacks - to take over the FBI's probe of "Russian Government efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election and related matters".

This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!

As evidence mounted to suggest that the Donald Trump campaign improperly collaborated with Russian Federation, over 60,000 Care2 members signed a petition calling for a special independent prosecutor to investigate the alleged cover-up. He did not provide examples or evidence of any alleged "illegal acts".

Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with Trump May 8, when the president asked them to put into writing their thoughts on Comey.

Trump was speaking Tuesday in a joint press conference with Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos.

In a written statement, Trump insisted anew that there were no nefarious ties between his campaign and Russian Federation. "There is no collusion between certainly myself and my campaign". "I look forward to this matter concluding quickly".

Democrats on Thursday continued to want an independent commission or special congressional panel, called a select committee, to probe the Russia-Trump reports.

A day after appointing former FBI Director Robert Mueller to lead the independent probe, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appeared behind closed doors before the full Senate.

The President also suggested that the investigation that will now be led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller was also motivated by an attempt to tarnish his election victory past year. But he told reporters Thursday in Cyprus that he doesn't understand what the "secret" was, since the US introduced a ban on laptops on airlines from some Middle Eastern countries two months ago. He was so valued that President Barack Obama asked him to stay on two years longer than his 10-year term.

On Capitol Hill, Comey was clearly the man in demand, with three committees working to seat him at their witness tables. The poll finds 50% disapprove of Trump's firing of Comey while 36% approve.

"Director Comey was very unpopular with most people", he said.

The leaders of the House Russia investigation, Rep. Mike Conaway and Rep. Adam Schiff, announced Thursday that they sent a formal request to the FBI seeking records of Comey's discussions with Trump.

Early reaction from Congress was generally positive to the appointment of Mueller.

In London, Shell's shares wiped out most of their earlier gains as the oil price tumbled. The fall in crude prices hit global energy and commodity stocks.

"This is a truth hunt", said Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar.

Republican Jason Chaffetz of Utah, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said Mueller was a "great selection. Impeccable credentials. Should be widely accepted".

And not a moment too soon, Democrats said.

"I think it is totally ridiculous". Cummings has vigorously urged such an appointment, suggesting it could lead to accusations of obstruction of justice. For one, a special counsel still reports to people who report to the president - unlike a hypothetical independent commission.

On Wednesday, Trump complained in the middle of a U.S. Coast Guard Academy commencement speech that he has been "treated worse" than any politician "in history".

Rosenstein acknowledged as much, saying in a statement Wednesday that the "public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command". "You've got the talking heads pontificating about someone I know well, when they don't know him at all and they don't have all the facts".

This centipede owns more shoes than Imelda Marcos, and we can only guess what happens when they all drop. "And the more righteous your fight, the more opposition that you will face".

Trump strongly disagreed. The appointment, he said in a briefing with news anchors, "hurts our country terribly".

Flynn's contacts with Russians during the presidential campaign, as well as his work for the Turkish government, are under investigation. He's right, and it would be hard to find many people with more investigative experience, integrity and respect from both sides of the aisle than Mueller.

House minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is not satisfied with just a special counsel leading the probe into Russia's influence on last year's election.

McCabe had other matters on his mind, too.

There is some concern that the multiple investigations will create an overlap that could make the probe more hard for everyone, particularly the congressional committees. Former Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman was seen as the front-runner.

When asked, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, would not confirm Graham's comments.
