Rep. King: Comey Had Obligation to Report Any Interference in Flynn Investigation

During the Wednesday news conference in which Ryan talked about tax reform, he emphasized the need to gather all the facts.

He also questioned why former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey didn't come forward sooner with his notes on his February meeting with Trump and said recent reporting "requires close examination". "And that means, before rushing to judgment, we get all the pertinent information".

A source close to Comey confirmed to ABC News that the former FBI director, who was sacked last week, was asked by Trump in February to end the investigation into Flynn's actions, according to a memo Comey wrote about his conversation with the president.

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go", Trump said to Comey, according to the source who read the memo. According to Comey, the White House renewed the program the next day without his approval.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that Trump had urged Comey to drop the investigation on Flynn in the wake of the former national security adviser's resignation.

The current Russian ambassador to Washington, Sergey Kislyak, has been a focus of the investigations into ties between President Donald Trump's associates and Russia during the campaign. Lavrov hasn't "shared any secrets with me or with representatives of Russian special services" following last week's meeting in the Oval Office, Putin said.

"The president has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies and all investigations", the statement continues.

Asked if he thought he had committed a crime or impeachable offense, the president said "it's totally ridiculous, everyone thinks so". "It is distracting from the ability to work on certain issues like health care reform, and the administration needs to get its house in order". An F.B.I. agent's contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.
