Senate Russia investigators ask Comey to testify, seek documents

Comey wrote a memo after one February meeting at the White House stating that President Donald Trump had asked him to shut down the FBI's investigation of ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, today made the following notification on the ongoing investigation into Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. elections. "They also called on the White House to provide records of interactions with Comey, including any audio recordings".

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go", the New York Times reported Trump said, citing the Comey memo. "I hope you can let this go".

The hearing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. next Wednesday, May 24, according to the House website.

Chaffetz, who is the chairman of the oversight committee, on Tuesday requested that the Federal Bureau of Investigation turn over by May 24 "all memoranda, notes, summaries, and recordings" detailing communications between President Trump and Comey. Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee also planned to ask Comey to testify, The Hill reported. The FBI is investigating to determine whether Trump or his associates colluded with Russian Federation, although no evidence to support the allegation has surfaced.

Multiple investigations are ongoing into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.
