TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay granted bail

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today granted conditional bail to Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for his alleged involvement in the Rose Valley Group chit fund scam.

According to reports, a bench of Justice J.P. Das granted the bail on a personal bond of rupees 25 lakh, slapping few conditions on Sudip Bandyopadhyay, which includes the surrender of his passport before the CBI.

During the hearing, the counsel argued that Sudip's bail plea should be considered by the High Court as the TMC MP is an elderly person and keeping unwell.

The Rose Valley group has allegedly duped investors in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Jharkhand, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, MP, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh of almost Rs 17,000 crore, as per sources.

Following his arrest, Bandyopadhyay had accused BJP of being behind the recent CBI arrests of TMC leaders in West Bengal over chit fund scam "BJP is doing this (arrests of TMC leaders) aiming to finish Mamata Banerjee and TMC in West Bengal", Sudip had said. Pal, an actor-turned politician, is now in the CBI custody in Bhubaneshwar.

The Special CBI Court, had on January 4, sent Bandyopadhyay to six-day CBI remand.
