Trump interviews 4 candidates to post of Federal Bureau of Investigation director

Joe Lieberman has emerged as the front-runner, according to a senior White House official.

A former chairman of the News, Lieberman ran for vice president alongside former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore in the 2000 election, becoming the first Jewish candidate on a major American political party's presidential ticket.

During an Oval Office appearance with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, Trump was also asked whether former Connecticut Sen. He said an announcement could come "soon" and that former Sen.

The president also replied "he is" when asked whether Lieberman is a top candidate for the position.

Anyone who suspects Lieberman is someone who has somehow transformed into a TrumpBot simply because of his connection to a law firm that now represents Trump should be roundly mocked.

Today marked the first time since the appointment of a special counsel that Trump publicly addressed Comey's firing and the subsequent news of a memo written by the ex-FBI director. They are acting FBI Director James McCabe, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, a former assistant attorney general Alice Fisher and Judge Michael J Garcia of the New York Court of Appeals.

Trump said he was about to name a replacement for Comey, another move to settle the waters.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Brimming with resentment, President Donald Trump fervently denied on Thursday that his campaign had collaborated with Russian Federation or that he'd tried to kill an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of the issue, contending that "even my enemies" recognize his innocence and declaring himself the most unfairly hounded president in history. "The FBI has not had that special reputation with what happened in the campaign, what happened with respect to the Clinton campaign, and even you could say directly or indirectly with respect to the much more successful Trump campaign", he said.

Saudi says Trump visit to bolster security, trade ties
Saudi entertainment website Lammt, which is advertising the event, says Saturday's free concert is open to men only. Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed said earlier this month that Obama "wasted many significant opportunities" in Syria.

Senate Republicans praised Lieberman, a Democrat turned independent, while Democrats were less effusive about their former colleague.

"That tells me a lot", said Sen. Joe Lieberman is 75 years old.

Trump interviewed as many as eight candidates since he fired James Comey last week. Flynn has figured prominently in the FBI investigation into Russian interference into the election.

Among their concerns was Mr Lieberman's past praise of Mr Michael Flynn, Mr Trump's first national security adviser, who was sacked in February after misleading officials about his conversations with Russian officials.

A November 25 news release from Trump's transition team quoted Lieberman praising Trump's selection of K.T. McFarland as deputy national security adviser.

He served in the U.S. Senate from 1989 to 2013. Mr Lieberman testified in support of Mr Sessions at his January confirmation hearing.

Lieberman, a former independent senator from CT, ran on a ticket with Democrat Al Gore in 2000, but they were defeated by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
