FIFA delegation impressed with Kochi as U-17 World Cup venue

FIFA delegation impressed with Kochi as U-17 World Cup venue

Allaying fears, the tournament director of the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup said on Thursday the city will host eight matches, including a quarterfinal, of the quadrennial extravaganza.

He made this announcement after expressing satisfaction at the overall progress of work at the JNI stadium and four training grounds in the city for the U-17 World Cup. "This craze is unheard of and we truly feel that we will accomplish the goal of having full stadia for the tournament", he said.Ticket sales for other venues have been encouraging as well, with the numbers being especially good for Guwahati and Navi Mumbai.

Home to Group F teams, the Salt Lake stadium will also host one round 16 game, one quarterfinal, the third place playoff and the final.

Appreciating the officers for finishing the works in time, Ceppi said the rest of the works, including painting and recarpeting of roads to the stadium, will be done well ahead of the event.

"We see no reason to hold back Kochi and at this point in time we're happy to say that Kochi is a World Cup venue", said Javier Ceppi, the Tournament Director of the under-17 World Cup's Local Organising Committee (LOC), at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday evening.

Research Report For Eldorado Gold Corporation (EGO)
Gray now forecasts that the company will post earnings per share of $0.04 for the year, up from their previous estimate of $0.01. Moreover, the stock is up 3.20% in one month through last close, to $67.48, showing a 4.57% return during the past three months.

"The stadium is fit for accommodating 41,748 people".

Federation Internationale de Football Association official Javier Ceppi, who is the tournament director for the U-17 World Cup, was the one who announced the decision and informed that the delegation members are happy with the preparations in Kochi. "Nothing can be done as the stadium has been constructed in that way, so we will not be using that area", he added. But Ceppi's words can be taken as a green signal for the city to host the U-17 World that will be played in six venues across the country in October this year. And the organisers will make sure that the content in the shops are vacated. I don't know who has said that Koch was demoted. Ceppi also dismissed reports that suggested the city didn't get to stage a semifinal or final game because of its slow preparation.

Visiting the stadium late last month, sports minister Vijay Goel had expressed disappointment over the delay in completion of works. "Kochi was always going to get eight matches", Ceppi added.

The Local Organizing Committee of Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup had earlier this month asserted that Kochi was on its way to complete preparation work by May 15.
