Former FBI Director Comey to Testify Before US Congress Soon

On Wednesday, an investigation into his campaign's ties with Moscow was significantly strengthened by the appointment of straight-shooting former FBI director Robert Mueller to lead it.

The FBI is also investigating former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's relationship with Russian Federation, a probe Trump apparently tried to stop, according to news reports. Regardless, Capitol Hill doesn't seem too interested.

"No. No. Next question", Trump told a news conference in the White House, when asked if he "in any way, shape or form" ever urged Comey to end the probe. USA stocks opened sharply lower on Wednesday after the reports of the memo.

Democratic lawmakers have demanded that the Justice Department name a special prosecutor to investigate the Russian Federation matter. A day before Comey's meeting with Trump, Flynn had been ousted for what the White House said were misleading accounts of his conversations with Russia's US ambassador. Ryan also insisted the Trump controversies were not paralysing Republican legislative efforts in Congress. "Our job is to get the facts and be sober about doing that", he said. "It is obvious there are some people out there who want to harm the president".

Trump later told news anchors at the White House that Mueller's appointment was a "very, very negative thing", adding: "I believe it hurts our country terribly, because it shows we're a divided, mixed-up, not-unified country". "So there are a lot of unanswered questions".

Rosenstein, the No 2 Justice Department official, named Mueller amid mounting pressure in Congress for an independent investigation beyond existing FBI and congressional probes into the Russian Federation issue.

"We can't deal with speculation and innuendo, and there's clearly politics being played".

UK police say Assange still faces arrest
Meanwhile, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long urged Britain to "grant safe passage" out of the country to Assange. However, the United Kingdom police said Assange would still be arrested if he leaves the Ecuadorean Embassy.

"I had been a prosecutor before, so I anticipated spending time on public corruption cases and narcotics cases and bank robberies and the like, and September 11 changed all of that", he told NPR in 2013 as he was stepping down. The latest developments have overshadowed the policy goals of Trump's Republican Party in Congress, including major healthcare legislation and tax cuts. Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said pressure was mounting on Ryan to allow a vote on legislation creating an independent commission to take up the investigation.

"The entire thing has been a witch hunt", Trump said during a press conference in the East Room of the White House.

A report by News Max is stating that Representative Justin Amash, republican from MI, says Trump should be impeached if it is discovered that he tampered with the FBI investigation into Michael Flynn by asking James Comey to stop the investigation. Senator Roy Blunt, a Missouri Republican, said Trump is still positioned to bring needed change to Washington.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is scheduled to meet privately with all members of the Senate on Thursday to discuss his role in firing Comey last week.

We may be hearing publicly from recently fired FBI Director James Comey sooner rather than later. Ryan backed Chaffetz's request.

President Donald Trump declared himself the victim of the "greatest witch hunt" in American political history Thursday and slapped down accusations he tried to quash a probe into collusion between his campaign team and Russian Federation.

It is thought the information came from Israel through a sensitive intelligence sharing arrangement and White House officials took steps to contain the damage after the meeting, placing calls to the CIA and National Security Agency.
