James Gunn Reveals Why Nathan Fillion Wasn't in 'Guardians 2'

Fillion already had a cameo as one of the inmates in the first Guardians movie, but his role as Simon Williams will be the first one where we actually see his face.

"I really do love the character of Simon Williams/Wonder Man in the comics - a sometimes douchey actor/superhero - and could see Nathan clearly in that role (not because he's a douchebag but because he's great at playing one)".

This film is full of action packed visual effects and ground breaking story arcs.

Gunn also shared one of the mock posters featuring Fillion in character as Williams; a poster for a fake biopic about Tony Stark, parodying the real life Steve Jobs movie.

Hopefully not only will that scene be on the DVD (I assume Ego took Meredith to the movies or something), but Wonder Man, played by Nathan Fillion, will make an official MCU appearance some time soon.

The film starts off well, with the signature soundtrack-oriented set pieces that made the first film so surprising, original, refreshing and delightful, a feeling that I experience so rarely when watching movies these days. The theater featured six posters for Williams movies, most of which contained other Easter eggs, according to Gunn.

Global Oil Supplies Inch Down In April: IEA
Still, stockpiles in some of the most developed economies - the 35 nations making up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development - increased in April, signaling that OPEC's work remains unfinished.

However, if you've seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, you know that these movie posters are nowhere to be seen. Majority in themselves are Easter eggs of some sort or another.

Gunn went on to reveal that the glimpse of the fictional posters had to eventually be edited out of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2's final cut, "along with storefronts named after comic book luminaries Starlin, Mantlos and Annett" as the sequence "slowed down" the plot. The entire idea of a Simon Williams Film Festival in the MCU confirms that the character exists in this universe, or at the very least his actor persona does. "He was even the third-billed actor on IMDB!"

There are quite a few surprise guests in the Marvel sequel, and when word broke early that Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion would be one of them, fans understandably kept their eyes peeled.

Starring Zoe Saldana, Kurt Russell, Chris Pratt and more, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is still showing in cinemas worldwide.

The Facebook post ends on a positive note, with Gunn saying that he thinks Fillion's part as Simon can be considered canon and that he will "hold onto hope that Simon Williams will rise again".
