Paul Pierce thinks Celtics should trade top overall pick

"It's two completely different situations: One is a lot about the future, and one is in the present", Celtics president Danny Ainge said.

BOSTON - The Celtics are heading to the Eastern Conference finals with the No. 1 seed and home court advantage. I don't think the Frenchmen Frank Ntilikina will be off the board yet, and the likelihood that one, if not both, of D'Aaron Fox and Dennis Smith Jr. will be available too. It's hard for me to be patient. But we haven't sat down with Lonzo [Ball] yet.

The third such occurrence took place during Tuesday night's lottery in New York City. Ten years ago they dropped to #5 and missed out on Kevin Durant. A deal for George or Butler to Boston would make them much better positioned to take down Cleveland in the East, while a George trade to LA would expedite the Lakers rebuild and instantly make them a playoff caliber team.

While three of the All-Time top franchises are seeing a rebirth of sorts, one member of that spectrum continues to slide. What the no. 1 pick offers, however, is leverage.

As unfathomable as it may seem, the Sixers could be seen as a "win now" team beginning this year. "It's a good time to be a Celtics fan".

The Suns also had the No. 4 pick last season and used it to select forward Dragan Bender.

When Philadelphia 76ers hired Sam Hinkie to be their general manager in 2013, he immediately embarked on a three-year quest to dismantle the team and acquire as many premium draft picks as possible. "And now there's certainty and clarity".

Ding could be implying that carry-overs like Ryan West and Jesse Buss were higher on Ingram than they are on the likes of Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball or any other prospects in this class. Thomas said the Washington product has already inquired about the organization. Avery Bradley would still keep his spot as a starter for now, but Fultz would get into the mix. Terry Rozier would also be able to contribute off the bench.

Not only that, but Philly also got the Lakers' 2018 first round pick - unprotected - since LA kept their pick this year. Now that they have kept their pick, they will have the chance to do that.

The Celtics are excited about their own opportunity.

On top of not being able to compete for titles now, Boston would throw away their chance to build for the future, when Golden State and Cleveland no longer have a strangle hold on the National Basketball Association. Gordon Hayward is the name tossed around most as a potential fit in Boston, as he can reunite with Brad Stevens.
