Roger Ailes, Former Chairman and CEO of Fox News, Dead at 77

Roger Ailes, the highly influential and controversial founder of Fox News who was past year forced out of the network amid a sexual harassment scandal, has died at the age of 77. While the Democrats talk about Trump potentially being the first President to step down or be kicked out of office since Nixon, one has to wonder if perhaps this could be linked to some of the same right-wing views that Ailes was known for.

"Hemophilia contributed to his death and his manner of death was accidental", the medical examiner said in a statement.

By 1992, Ailes had retired from politics and soured on the news media. However, last summer he left the channel after former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson accused him of sexual harassment in a lawsuit. - Lisa Bloom, attorney for Wendy Walsh, who made sexual harassment allegations against Ailes. It has had a mixed relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, a longtime friend of Ailes, but was instrumental in his election victory in November. He was also reported to have advised President Donald Trump in the campaign a year ago.

Roger Ailes, one of the founders of Fox News, passed away this morning at 77.

"Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many", Elizabeth said in a statement. "In addition, Roger was a great patriot who never ceased fighting for his beliefs".

Ailes, a former Republican political consultant, established Fox News, along with News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch, in 1996.

Ailes started Fox News nearly from scratch in 1996 and built it into not just a cable news ratings leader but a profound influence on the right wing of American politics.

For his part, former Transport Minister David Collenette concluded in a report to the province that the project was viable. CTV reports that the province, in working with Via and Metrolinx, would seek out private financing and partners.

On "Fox & Friends" Thursday morning, co-host Ainsley Earhardt choked up as she shared an emotional reflection: "Many people out there would say that he saved this country by starting the Fox News Channel".

Long before Fox News, Ailes was a Republican operative who saw long before most what television could do for the party.

Roger Ailes was defiant on his way out the door at Fox News 10 months ago, insisting that multiple sexual harassment allegations against him were "baseless", even as the network indicated otherwise.

The official cause of Ailes's death has not yet been revealed.
