Unemployment rates hit record lows in 3 states

The rates in Arkansas (3.5 percent), Colorado (2.3 percent), and OR (3.7 percent) set new state lows in April.

In April past year, the statewide unemployment rate was 5.6 percent.

The latest numbers released by the state Employment Security Department show that the April's rate was down slightly from 4.7 percent in March. However, the number of people unemployed also fell by more than 950 compared with March and by more than 2,000 compared with April 2016.

The leisure and hospitality sector, which has added 500 jobs since last April, lost 2,400 over the month, and construction, which has added 3,800 year-over-year, lost 1,000 in April.

The First Coast's unemployment rate for April is down from a year ago when the jobless figure was 4.4 percent.

"Through the first four months of 2017, MA has added over twenty thousand jobs, with much of those gains coming from key sectors of the economy", Ronald L. Walker II, the secretary of Labor and Workforce Development, said in a statement.

Jobs in educational and health services rose by 7,000, mostly in health care and social assistance.

Workforce conditions remained tight throughout much of ME in April with very low unemployment, particularly in the southwest portion of the state.

The jobless rate fell sharply last month as employers hired more than seven times as many workers as was forecast by economists.

There were also worries that the fall in unemployment could prove to be temporary as the lack of growth in employment levels suggests that France's economy is still not creating the number of jobs required to sustain the lower levels of unemployment.

The number of people actively participating in the labor force increased 12,100 over the month to 2,945,300 and the number of people reporting themselves as employed increased 19,500 to 2,876,900.

"We think the strength in Australia's labour market could continue for a while yet, hopefully stemming the trend decline in consumer confidence seen since the start of the year", said ANZ in a report.

This month's report shows the greatest job growth occurred in government up 1,900, transportation, warehousing and utilities up 1,600 and wholesale trade up 1,300 new jobs.
