Attorney General Sessions to interview 4 candidates Saturday for Federal Bureau of Investigation director

November 12, 2016: During a telephone call with top campaign donors, Clinton blames Comey for her defeat by Trump.

The communications staff charged with explaining the decision to the American people had an hour's notice. His dismissal of a special prosecutor, Archibald Cox, who subpoenaed the White House for the president's tapes marked the beginning of the end of his presidency. "If there's tapes of this conversation, they need to be turned over". Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning. Trump firing Comey = Nixon firing Cox.

Trump, referring to the FBI's investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state, however said that the steady flow of news surrounding that probe helped him as a candidate in the 2016 presidential election.

The letter noted Congressmen John Conyers and Elijah Cummings also want all documents, memos, analyses, emails or other communications related to Trump's decision to fire Comey turned over to Congress. He leans heavily on daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as Hope Hicks, his trusted campaign spokeswoman and Keith Schiller, his longtime bodyguard.

Federal Bureau of Investigation directors are presidential appointments, but their 10-year terms are meant to ensure they're above the political fray and not beholden to a particular party or leader.

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC said on "Meet the Press" that Trump has is obligated "to pick somebody beyond reproach outside the political lane".

Democrats have also lashed out at Sessions, noting that he vowed earlier this year to recuse himself from any probes involving coordination between Trump associates and Russian Federation. That could well include the firing of Comey.

Trump spent most of the week out of sight, a marked change from a typically jam-packed schedule that often includes multiple on-camera events per day. He's viewed even senior advisers suspiciously, including Bannon and Priebus, when stories about internal White House drama land in the press.

However, the team could still end the season on a high note by winning the FA Cup final next season. I am very proud of what they have done, the way they responded and finished the season.

That's according to two people familiar with the search process who weren't authorized to publicly discuss the deliberations and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Democrats irate over Comey's abrupt ouster, and concerned by the inclusion of politicians on the list of possible replacements, are demanding Trump not select a partisan leader.

Like many administrations, the relationship between Trump and the press has been tense. Trump calls Comey over to where he is standing in the Blue Room to offer a handshake and a partial hug, then comments that Comey has "become more famous than me".

As Mr Trump works to fast-track Mr Comey's successor, lawmakers from both parties urged him to steer clear of any politicians for the job and said he must "clean up the mess that he mostly created".

Trump is mulling expanding the communications team and has eyed hiring producers from Fox News, according to one White House official.

Trump, who has been preparing for his first foreign trip - one that will take him to the Middle East and Europe - also will deliver the commencement address to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, on Wednesday.

But the blowback from Comey's firing left the White House reeling once again.

That led Trump to tweet Friday morning, "As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with flawless accuracy".
