Man City boss Guardiola: Kompany and Aguero staying

Man City boss Guardiola: Kompany and Aguero staying

Sunday's 5-0 rout over Watford secured third place in the Premier League for the Citizens and means the club's hierarchy are now able to properly budget for Champions League football next term. Today, when the game was finished I was thinking about the next game but they said: "The league is finished" and I said: "'Oh, that's a shame, we'll have to wait for next season then!'"

Guardiola is one of the most celebrated coaches in world football and joined City, when he succeeded Manuel Pellegrini last summer, with high expectations after success-packed spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. We tried to win something this year but it was hard.

"Before we were never in the Champions League and now we've been there six or seven times in a row. I said from the beginning that both can play together".

The jury is out on whether the Ivorian will put pen to paper on a fresh deal to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, or whether he will be playing his football elsewhere next season. Are we going to review the referees? No. "And in Europe we are happy to be directly in the draw".

Guardiola's men enter the final day of the league campaign facing the prospect of finishing as many as 18 points behind champions Chelsea and 11 back from runners-up Spurs.

The Italian's final teamsheet included no centre-halves - due to injury and suspension - and two goalkeepers on the bench alongside skipper Troy Deeney.

However, having three goalkeepers on the field would probably not have saved Watford from a mauling.

Manchester City's Fernandinho scores their fourth goal against Watford during their Premier League match at Vicarage Road, May 21, 2017. He knows what I want and he knows as well what I can do for the team. "Kele - he didn't play too much because of my reasons - he has the quality, Sergio, there's no doubt about that; Gabriel there's no doubt about that".

It was not the send-off Mazzarri wanted.

"They have improved a lot".

"I want to be honest with the fans because those guys have been so special and the club has been good to me". With such a hard situation, an inexperienced manager would have done worse.

"It's not a matter of athletic preparation or condition, because when they were injured I did not push them - that's the truth, these are the facts". Look at the stats.

"While we had a complete squad we were fighting for seventh place, reached 40 points and were 10th". That is all that counts.

"I'm experienced enough to know you can not have 20,000 people on your side". If I'm exhausted I'm going to say: "Okay, I'm done".
