WASHINGTON (AP) - While Democrats may trot out any number of demands or maneuvers to influence the selection of the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, here's a reality check: Republican President Donald Trump fired James Comey, and he and his party will decide who's next.

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC said on "Meet the Press" that Trump has is obligated "to pick somebody beyond reproach outside the political lane".

Critics have assailed Trump for abruptly dismissing Comey, who was leading the agency's investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election, and possible ties between Moscow and the Trump presidential campaign.

Adam Lee, a special agent in charge of the FBI's office in Richmond, Virginia, was interviewed as well.

Frances Townsend, former homeland security and counterterrorism adviser to President George W. Bush, and former Michigan Rep. Mike Rogers also met with Justice officials.

-U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson, a Bush appointee who struck down the centerpiece of the Obama administration's health care law in 2010.

"I've been working with his speech writers and I think he's going to deliver a wonderful speech that will be personal to Liberty", Falwell said in the interview.

AWS already has a base in Pretoria, whilst Google's Cloud Platform is yet to establish itself on the African continent. Microsoft now has "17,000 regional partners and customers alike" in Africa, according to the announcement.

Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn, who is the current Senate majority whip and a former Texas attorney general, is also in the running.

Trump abruptly fired Comey on Tuesday and later said Comey was a "showboat" and "grandstander" who was not doing a good job. Attorney Alice Fisher arrives at the U.S. Department of Justice on Saturday, May 13, 2017.

Trump has promised to move quickly to nominate someone to the 10-year term. The FBI has never had a female director.

Democrats are demanding appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Russia's involvement in the 2016 election and ties to Trump's campaign, and have discussed trying to slow down the confirmation process or other business of the Senate as a way of drawing attention to the demand.

"Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein's office has confirmed to Senator Schumer's office that Mr. Rosenstein will come to brief the full Senate next week", Schumer spokesman Matt House said in a statement.

Twenty-nine percent of respondents said they approve of Trump's decision, compared to 38 percent who disapprove and 32 percent who said they did not have enough information to provide an answer.

Clapper and Schumer made their comments on CNN's "State of the Union"; Graham spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press".
