President Trump denies telling Comey to back off Flynn probe

Another former administration official said Flynn was viewed as a potential national security problem. That's taken off.' He also said he is not personally under investigation.

President Donald warned that the special counsel investigation into alleged links between his 2016 campaign and Russia's election hacking "hurts our country" after branding the probe the "single greatest witch hunt" in political history. Those familiar with the case said its significance had increased before Mueller's appointment.

The FBI's investigation is focused on whether and to what extent Trump campaign and transition team officials were in contact with Russian officials to interfere in the 2016 election.

The White House has struggled since Comey's firing to explain the chain of events that led to it and the Justice Department's involvement in that decision. He suggested in a tweet that the special counsel brought in to take over the Russian Federation investigation, former FBI director Robert Mueller, may stop Comey speaking in public about an ongoing investigation.

The investigation is not only focused on those now in the administration, but also Trump campaign associates no longer working for the president. An FBI spokesman declined to comment.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, did not dispute the account.

"This new report that President Trump openly admitted to the Russians that he "faced great pressure" from the FBI's criminal investigation that was "taken off" when he fired Director Comey is astonishing - and extremely troubling", Cummings said in a statement.

The day after Rosenstein appointed a special counsel to investigate possible coordination between Trump's associates and Russian officials, he appeared before the Senate on Thursday afternoon to brief senators in a closed session. "Moreover, the American people deserve an opportunity to hear it".

Andy Holey, who went to the arena to pick up his family, said the blast threw him about nine metres through a set of doors. Britain is on its second-highest alert level of "severe", meaning an attack by militants is considered highly likely.

The Flynn Intel Group was paid for research on Fethullah Gulen, a cleric who Turkey's current president believes was responsible for a coup attempt last summer. The Trump Organisation, which controls the President's financial interests, also did not respond to queries.

Trump fired Flynn on 14 February for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about the extent of his conversations a year ago with Russia's ambassador. Flynn stepped down after The Washington Post reported on the contents of the call.

The president has nonetheless seemed to defend his former adviser.

Mr. Comey, who was abruptly fired last week by President Trump, has become the focus of allegations that the president was interfering in the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of collusion with Russian Federation.

The White House also has acknowledged that Kushner met with Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the USA, in late November.

Trump said he was about to name a replacement for Comey, another effort to settle the waters.

That man - Evgeny Buryakov - ultimately pleaded guilty and was eventually deported.

The exchange mocked Trump's Oval Office meeting last week with Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, during which Trump revealed sensitive classified information on ISIS that reportedly had been secretly provided to the Israel.
