Notably, the U.S. president did not speak of an independent Palestinian state next to Israel, but instead talked about improving the Palestinian economy and strengthening counter-terrorism efforts - a possible reference to Israeli and Palestinian security coordination.

Before dinner at Netanyahu's residence on Monday, Trump avoided delving into details.

Robert Danin, a former United States official with decades of experience in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, said that while both leaders are eager not to get on Trump's "bad side", the dynamics of reaching a deal remain largely unchanged.

Trump emphasized the point he had made throughout his trip, including at a summit of Muslim leaders in Saudi Arabia, that the region could unite against violence he claimed was promoted by Iran.

During meetings with Netanyahu on Monday, Trump focused his comments on the threat from Iran, but also talked about the opportunities for peace in the region and how Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations were shifting their stance, potentially opening a window towards a regional agreement.

Trump's brief journey from Jerusalem to Bethlehem offered a visual reminder of the complexities of the conflict.

The French leader said that " deep reforms " are required for the European Union that " need common work " from Paris and Berlin. In part that's because Berlin is overwhelmingly relieved that it's not Marine Le Pen walking up the red carpet.

He said he was "truly hopeful that America can help Israel and the Palestinians forge peace and bringing new hope the region and its people".

The club said a lot of deliberations were conducted with Trump's team over the last two days, and they agreed upon "all pertinent details", including the scouts' costumes, the flags and instruments that would be carried.

President Trump rebuked PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority at their joint statement in Bethlehem on Tuesday morning.

Abbas also spoke about the peace process.

His speech at the Israel Museum touched on the Jewish connection to the Holy Land, earning applause from the audience, which included Sheldon Adelson, a USA billionaire and active political supporter of both Netanyahu and Trump.

Trump and Abbas met earlier this month at the White House.

"Our society can have no tolerance for this continuation of bloodshed", Trump said.

He has since said the move was still being looked at.

At the same time, he urged Israel to hold back on settlement building in the West Bank, a longstanding concern of Palestinians and much of the world.

Melania Trump appeared to swat away her husband's hand as he reached for her, a moment captured by hundreds of cameras, and recreated as a viral meme on social media.

The visit raised questions about whether the USA would indicate the site is Israeli territory.
