Netanyahu Welcomes Trump, Delivers Indirect Insult to Obama

"He's looking for a kind of outside-in approach, first peace between Israel and Sunni Arab states, who have a common enemy in Iran, and that regional peace leading to Israeli-Palestinian peace".

While past USA presidents have set out broad principles both sides must meet in order to reach a peace deal, Trump has resisted laying out any clear guidelines, instead promising to act as a mediator and urging both sides to take steps toward peace.

Later during the day, Trump returned to Jerusalem to visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial where a ceremony took place in the Hall of Remembrance to commemorate the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. He has already visited Saudi Arabia and Israel. A few blocks from where Trump and Abbas spoke, a rally was being held in support of the hunger strike. The prisoners are an assortment of those convicted of serious terrorist crimes, as well as those picked up in ongoing West Bank skirmishes with Palestinian youth.

"We want Trump to intervene on the Israeli side so the demands of the prisoners can be met", the PA's Prisoner Affairs Minister Issa Qaraqe told The Times of Israel. "They date back thousands of years", Trump said.

"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges is not a Christian", the pope said in February 2016.

"Iran's leaders routinely call for Israel's destruction", Trump said. "But they're losers. Just remember that", he said. A banner hung in the city said "the city of peace welcomes the man of peace" along with photos of Abbas and Trump. In solidarity with captives, Palestinians in Jerusalem announced a strike on Tuesday.

Hundreds of stone-throwing youths clashed with Israeli soldiers firing tear gas and rubber bullets.
