Rosenstein: Firing Comey Was 'Appropriate'

"He was insane, a real nut job", Trump said.

A senior White House adviser has been identified as a "significant person of interest" in the investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Trump's Oval Office meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak came one day after Comey was sacked.

Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee after Memorial Day, and the main question around his hearing will be whether Comey believes Trump was trying to intervene in the FBI's investigation. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer did not dispute the overall accuracy of the document and its contents. "Once again, the real story is that our national security has been undermined by the leaking of private and highly classified conversations".

Pop star Ariana Grande has many young fans, and numerous concertgoers at Manchester Arena were children or teenagers. Abedi also had ties to al-Qaeda, according to the official, and received terrorist training overseas .

Trump later contradicted that account during a televised interview, in which he said he meant to fire Comey regardless of Rosenstein's memo.

"Notwithstanding my personal affection for Director Comey, I thought it was appropriate to seek a new leader", Rosenstein's prepared remarks read.

Later, however, Trump said that he had already made the decision to fire Comey before getting Sessions' and Rosenstein's input. "Because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side, that were saying such awful things about Director Comey".

The reports come as the President leaves for his first foreign trip. In light of these revelations and Comey's firing, Rosenstein appointed former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation. The Russian President asked that they meet when he spoke with Trump earlier this month.
