Ander Herrera dedicates Europa League final win to Manchester attack victims

Pogba opened the scoring as United claimed a 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday.

The players had taken part in a session at Carrington on Tuesday morning before flying to Stockholm in the wake of the incident at the Manchester arena that left 22 people dead and 59 injured during an Ariana Grande concert at the venue.

Man United put on huge pressure after the opening whistle on the Dutch side, who nearly gifted their opponents a lead one minute into the game.

However, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss says it is more gratifying to have qualified for the Champions League by winning a trophy than through a top-four finish and is now looking forward to a long break. We know we are just football players but we have an audience.

"It was hard to train yesterday but the manager told us the only thing we could do is win this for them and that is what we have done".

If you offered Man United fans two (or three if you count the Community Shield) trophies at the start of the season, most would have gratefully accepted this outcome, particularly in one of the most competitive seasons in English football's history and given the club's relative lack of success following Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Pogba - the world's most expensive player - stood out, dominating the midfield in the first half. We played intelligently, we did it in a comfortable way. I am so happy to see the boys with the crutches with the trophy and now I am on holiday.

"Obviously the events in Manchester has put a dampener on everything but hopefully we can win and bring the trophy back tonight".

Jose Mourinho: 'I would be very happy if Wayne Rooney stays'
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists that he would be "very happy" if Wayne Rooney stayed at the club this summer. There are lots of poets in football but poets don't win many titles.

Mkhitaryan, who has netted 11 times in all competitions during this debut season with United, thanked his team-mates when speaking to BT Sport: "Without them, I couldn't score many goals".

Well, the basics from the Europa League victory are simple.

"If United were to win the Europa League and go on a good run in the Premier League next season, they would be in a position to comfortably double their shirt deal to $150 million a year", Wilson said.

"It means the last piece in the puzzle", Mourinho said, "a club with every trophy in the world of football".

"We've already undertaken a lot of preparation, and with the way the world looks today this type of incident (Monday's attack) is the kind of thing we have to prepare for".

But the United manager insisted that their tactics were justified given that they emerged with the trophy in hand. He knew exactly what the win meant: It was hugely important for the upward trajectory of his job at United and the challenge of restoring them to the top.
