Lamb homers, D-backs complete sweep of White Sox 8

Lamb homers, D-backs complete sweep of White Sox 8

The Arizona Diamondbacks look to complete a three-game sweep and win for the seventh time in eight games when they host the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks battered Quintana and sent him packing after 4.1 innings, slapping eight hits and scoring eight runs off of 76 Quintana pitches. Four-straight hits after he led off the fifth by hitting Brandon Drury and allowing a home run to Lamb convinced manager Rick Renteria that he had seen enough from his ace.

Sox manager Rick Renteria said he could foresee Quintana going on a run of strong starts.

The White Sox finished 3-7 on their West Coast trip. Then the bottom of the fourth inning came, and now we have a new narrative to track after Quintana was shelled in an 8-6 loss to cap a series sweep.

Andrew Chafin (1-0) threw a scoreless fifth inning to get the victory in relief of Randall Delgado. Cabrera drew a two-out walk against Fernando Rodney to keep hope alive, but Abreu hit a hard grounder to second, ending the game.

For the White Sox, Jose Abreu went 4-for-5, including a two-run homer.

Delgado, normally a long reliever, started in place of Taijuana Walker - out with a blister on his right index finger.

Lovullo plans to keep playing Lamb against left-handers. "At the same time, I'm not putting any extra pressure on myself. The results will come with more ABs and me continuing to work at it". He has four homers over his last four games, and a team-leading 11 on the season. They have tied the best record after 29 games, set in 1999 and matched in 2000.

In the fourth, the Sox scored an unearned run when Abreu led off with a double to center, then advanced to third on a passed ball.

NOTES: White Sox RHP James Shields threw a bullpen session before Tuesday's game.

Diamondbacks: LF Yasmany Tomas (left hip flexor) was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup. Tom Wilhelmsen cracked open the door for the White Sox, allowing two runs in the sixth, and Jorge De La Rosa also struggled, giving up two more in the seventh. After he retired the first 10 to start the game, he started leaving fastballs over the plate.

Losses on this 10-game West Coast road trip through Anaheim, Seattle and Arizona, which in retrospect is looking like an island of respite provided by an very bad Mariners pitching staff, surrounded by misery. LHP Robbie Ray (3-3, 3.91) starts the opener for the Diamondbacks; RHP Zach Davies (5-2, 5.44) goes for the Brewers.

While the game industry is growing, it's a fickle business, where investors have struggled to pick winners. John Riccitiello, CEO of Unity , commented that it "makes sense to let employees buy cars".
