Man United claim emotional Europa League victory

Players from Ajax and Manchester United observed a minute of reflection prior to Wednesday's Europa League final in memory of the victims of Monday's terror attack in Manchester.

For United coach Jose Mourinho, it was obvious that the victory was a huge weight off his shoulders, because of both the emotions of the last few days and the importance of the match.

"We know things like this are very sad all over the world, not only in Manchester but also in Paris", Pogba said during a TV interview after the final whistle.

"When we lost players in a period of 17 matches in seven weeks, it was the impossible job".

"We tried our best to focus on the game".

"We just came to do our job and the boys were fantastic because they blocked (it out), they put a wall in front of their eyes and they stay isolated from everything".

"The goal was to win all the way through this season". We come without the happiness that we should bring with us because when you come for these big matches, you go happy, you go proud and we didn't. "We have three trophies so enjoy it now", he added.

Moody's Cuts China Down To Size
Moody's now rates China's credit alongside that of countries such as Japan, Saudi Arabia and Israel. It added that it expects government borrowing levels to increase.

It left United's Champions League hopes resting on this game but the win and subsequent qualification for the group stages of Europe's elite tournament means that Mourinho can regard this season as a real success.

Peter Bosz replaced the anoymous Kasper Dolberg as he sought to give Ajax some much-needed attacking vigour but United wasted a great opening to settle the contest, Fellaini heading straight at Onana after being picked out by Pogba.

The France midfielder was all over the pitch, appearing as a third centre back one moment to head the ball away from danger, channeling pinpoint passes to striker Marcus Rashford the next.

Paul Pogba's deflected effort and Henrikh Mkhitaryan's improvised finish proved the difference as United collected their second trophy of the season following their League Cup triumph in February.

The English side then took their foot off the pedal, enabling Ajax to start finding space in unsafe areas, but within three minutes of kick-off in the second half they had tightened their grip on the game.

The young side were unable to break down an experience and resolute United outfit that eventually ran out the match 2-0 winners.

United had little trouble keeping Ajax at bay in the closing stages, as the English team won their sixth European trophy and the only major piece of silverware missing from their collection.
