Sri Lankan president discusses asylum seekers in Australia

President Sirisena is scheduled to visit Sydney during the three-day official visit.

Reportedly fight against people smuggling was high on the agenda of the talks between the two leaders among other areas of bilateral cooperation.

Australia imports around 171 million Australian dollars ($127.38 million) of Sri Lankan goods every year, with apparel, rubber products, clay construction materials and the nation's renowned tea making up the majority of purchases, Xinhua news agency reported.

Sirisena this week used a Cabinet reshuffle to remove his country's foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera, who spearheaded a successful campaign to extricate Sri Lanka from possible worldwide sanctions over war crime allegations from the country's long civil war.
