Man with axe arrested at Birmingham vigil for Manchester terror attack victims

West Midlands Police said it had increased both armed and unarmed patrol numbers following the horrific Manchester terror attack in which 22 people died.

On Monday night, an explosion occurred outside the Manchester Arena at the end of United States singer Ariana Grande's concert, leaving at least 22 people dead and nearly 120 others injured.

Assistant chief constable Alex Murray, from West Midlands Police, says there are no known links between the Manchester incident and our region but he stressed the national threat level remains severe.

The blast happened in the foyer of the Manchester Arena at around 10.30pm as people left a concert which had been performed by USA singer Ariana Grande.

My thoughts are with the people of Manchester in this hard period.

"We will support Greater Manchester Police in any way we can across the next days, weeks and months".

Chief Constable Craig Guilford said plans would be assessed in Notts in light of Monday's attack in Manchester.

Manchester United's Europa League victory dedicated to terror victims
Prior to this victory they had won the European Cup on three occasions, in 1968, 1999 and 2008, and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1991. But this was the ideal end to a long, hard season. "If he stays with us next season, I'm more than happy with that".

The attack on Manchester was a vicious and truly terrible attack on young people who were enjoying the simple pleasure of a music concert.

"The response of the emergency services and specifically colleagues at Great Manchester Police has been exemplary as has the community who have rallied around".

Vigils have taken place all over the United Kingdom to honour those killed and injured during the Manchester attack.

"What I am absolutely sending is a message of reassurance to the communities of Nottinghamshire, including those businesses that run these types of venues, and that is as a community, we stand together".

An exercise was held at the centre in March 2012 to prepare staff and 999 crews to deal with emergency situations. However, you will see armed police officers in busy places, just like many other cities around the UK.

Ariana Grande is set to perform two more shows this week at the o2 arena in London before continuing her European tour in Belgium.

Flags on buildings across the county have been flown at half mast to pay tribute to the victims and their families.
