Ajax signs Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar

He represented Real Madrid, AC Milan and Schalke after his time in the Dutch capital.

Ajax have completed the signing of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old, who recently ended a six-year stay with Schalke, won the KNVB Beker and Johan Cruyff Shield with the Amsterdam club between 2006 and 2008.

He had announced in April that he would be leaving Shalke when his contract expired with the club.

However, he agreed to re-join Ajax knowing full well that youngster Kasper Dolberg will be ahead of him in the pecking order.

"It is no secret that Ajax is my club", Huntelaar stated in a press release.

Huntelaar says he is ready to play behind the Dane, adding that Ajax needs more than one striker to compete domestically and in Europe next season.

'I feel very fit and I'm already looking forward to the end of June when the preseason preparation begins.

"I am sure that Klaas-Jan will fulfil an important role at Ajax, on and off the pitch", said Ajax football director Marc Overmars.

"You can not do that with one striker, so I'm definitely playing games and getting game-time".

Huntelaar started his career at PSV Eindhoven, before spells with Dutch also-rans De Graafschap, AGOVV Apeldoorn and Heerenveen, before heading to Ajax for the first time.
