Bihar Topper Scam: Four principles accused of money laundering

"We registered the case last month to probe the inflow of money in the proceeding of crime in which several government officials are involved in direct and indirect way", an Enforcement Directorate official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Kumar in an interview to a TV news channel said singer Lata Mangeshkar is known as "Maithili Kokila", a title bestowed on folk singer Sharda Sinha, who is from Samastipur, where his school is situated.

The scam surfaced past year after the state's arts topper in Class 12 examinations, Ruby Rai, failed to answer some basic questions in the subject she aced, in a TV interview.

Ganesh was untraceable since the announcement of the bihar board results.

He seemed to have a hard time explaining what is "sur", "taal" and "matra", considered the basics of music. Another incident was added to the list of controversies when humanities topper Ganesh Kumar reportedly went missing. Ganesh, who hails from Jharkhand, had taken admission in Ram Nandan Singh Jagdeep Narayan College in Samastipur. He has secured 92 marks out of 100 in Hindi.

Nazarbayev condoles with Afghanistan over deadly blast in Kabul
Pakistan condemned the "terrorist attack in Kabul this morning that has caused loss of precious human lives and injuries to many". No group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's attack, although the Taliban has denied involvement.

The school where he studied from is run by a man identified as Abhitendra Kumar, son of a BJP activist Jawahar Prasad Singh.

Education minister Ashok Chaudhary also defended the arts topper Ganesh Kumar and said that "Questioning a topper like this is not proper as even BSEB chairman has said that the evaluation was carried out in the proper manner".

Choudhary asked if the "media person who posed queries to the topper is himself a great musician?" "My paper was not evaluated properly", says Roshan, a student of Bihar's Vaishali district.

Branding the Bihar topper scam news as utter rubbish, the Janata Dal (United) on Friday said the news is being used by certain outlets in the media for the sheer objective of sensationalism. A whopping 64 per cent of students failed the board exams in 2017.

Meanwhile, a large number of students, who failed the exams, protested outside the BSEB's office, prompting the police to resort to lathicharge.
