Comey was 'incompetent' to interfere on 'fake information'

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly told ABC News on Sunday it was "normal" and "acceptable" to establish back channels with foreign powers.

In a statement later on Sunday night, carried by the New York Times, Trump praised Kushner and the work he has done in the White House. He added that the 36-year-old, who has a portfolio ranging from Middle East peace to streamlining the federal bureaucracy, is "respected by virtually everyone" and "is a very good person".

NBC News reported last week that Kushner has come under scrutiny in the FBI's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Reports in the USA say investigators believe he has relevant information, but is not necessarily suspected of a crime.

Point one, Graham said, is the provenance of the story. The Post report cited senior United States officials who claimed that American intelligence officers had intercepted a discussion between Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and his superiors in the Kremlin in which he informed them of Kushner's request to open up the secret line of communication. He met separately last December - after the election but before Trump assumed office - with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to Washington, and Sergey Gorkov, the head of the government-owned Vnesheconombank, which has been subject to USA sanctions because of its role in Russia's occupation of a part of Ukraine.

"Whenever you see the words "sources say" in the fake news media, and they don't mention names", Trump wrote, "it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers".

All communications gathered through a back channel would be "shared across the government, so it's not a bad thing to have multiple communication lines" with any country, Kelly said.

In a tweet Sunday night, the president calls for putting more money into the health care system.

"I will tell you that my dashboard warning light was clearly on", he said without addressing the specific allegations about the president's son-in-law's encounters with Kremlin-linked figures. I mean, multiple ways to communicate back and forth is a good thing with a country I think, and particularly a country that's like Russian Federation.

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, left, talks to White House chief of staff Reince Priebus in Saudi Arabia last week.

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media", Trump wrote in a series of Twitter posts on Sunday. "I don't know who leaked this information, but just think about it this way-you've got the Ambassador of Russian reporting back to Moscow on an open channel, 'Hey, Jared Kushner's going to move into the embassy!'"

Schiff said he expects Kushner to testify before the House intelligence committee.

Graham, who is not a member of the Senate intelligence committee, is leading a Senate judiciary subcommittee probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The meeting came as Trump was openly feuding with American intelligence agencies and their conclusion that Russian Federation had tried to disrupt the presidential election and turn it in his favour.

Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN he doubted the Kushner reports were accurate.

"I don't know why people do it", Kelly said of the leaks.
