Elon Musk Quits Trump's Presidential Councils Over Paris Accord Exit

UN Secretary General Antonio GuterresUN Secretary General Antonio Guterres was disappointed over President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord and said: "The decision by the United States to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change is a major disappointment for global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote worldwide security".

They warned that United States withdrawal from the deal could speed up the effects of global climate change, worsening heat waves, floods, droughts and storms.

Despite pleas from Cook and others, however, President Trump today announced that the United States will withdraw from the pact, marking a blow to climate change efforts.

"We will see if we can make a deal that's fair".

"Those who want to export their goods and services to our market also have to accept our standards", he said.

"We governors are going to step into this cockpit and fly the plane", Inslee told reporters.

Peduto also wanted to make sure Trump was aware of how he fared in Pittsburgh in November's presidential election. "With this move, that now changes, and I fear we'll be left behind on climate and energy issues as well as many others". Tweeting about it, he said: "We are deeply disappointed that the United States federal government has made a decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement".

Jean-Claude Juncker, head of the European Union's executive Commission, lashed Trump's decision as "seriously wrong".

On the other end of the spectrum was White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt, whom Ivanka Trump had personally met to discuss the Paris agreement. Macron reportedly told Trump that France would keep working with the U.S., but not on climate change.

LIASSON: That's true. But pulling out says something important about how America views its place in the world.

Robert Iger, the CEO of Disney, followed suit. "That is why President Trump is committing a mistake with dramatic and fatal consequences", she said. "I deeply disagree with the decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement".

The White House is planning to a hold a meeting with technology leaders on June 19, an administration spokesman said. Along with NY and Washington, the three represent more than one fifth of U.S. gross domestic product. Trump has asserted that such policies, like the Paris Accord, harm American workers-particularly miners in struggling areas of Appalachia.
