England draw first blood in ICC Champions Trophy

Root also suffered an injury scare when he damaged his calf early in his innings but he made light of the problem to post his highest one-day worldwide score.

"A scan has confirmed that Chris Woakes sustained a left side strain in yesterday's ICC Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh", the European Central Bank said in a statement on Friday.

An unbeaten 133 by a cramping Joe Root, a 95 by opener Alex Hales, and an unbeaten 75 by captain Eoin Morgan paced an aggressive England to what, in the end, was a comfortable win in sunny conditions.

The only negative for England was an injury to all-rounder Chris Woakes. There was no help from the wicket, and world-class players like Root and Morgan were batting.

Root too was clearly inconvenienced by what appeared at first to be an ankle twisted as he set off for a run, but the Yorkshireman later said "It's all right - it looks like it's just a bit of cramp ..."

As Morgan slashed apart the Bangladesh bowling attack, Root continued to dice it with more subtlety, and reached his 10th ODI century with an easy two.

A disappointed Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza said his side failed to take wickets in the middle and also couldn't get enough runs on board in the final overs.

That was Bangladesh's highest ODI stand outside of Asia, surpassing the 141 put on by Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah when they knocked England out of the 2015 World Cup with a 15-run win in Adelaide.

Steve Kerr's absence from the Golden State Warriors bench was nearing an end according to reports earlier on Thursday. Beat the guys who beat you". "But at the end of the day winning a championship is winning a championship".

Fast bowler Plunkett took four wickets for 59 runs from his maximum 10 overs.

Tamim skied Liam Plunkett to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and Mushfiqur was caught in the deep for 79 off the next ball, allowing England to restrict the boundary flow in the closing overs and keep the Bangladesh total down. Their departures stalled Bangladesh just when it needed to be surging.

But as the runs kept coming, an increasingly frustrated Stokes exchanged words with Tamim and mockingly patted him on the shoulder at the end of the 32nd over, with umpires Rod Tucker and S Ravi intervening to calm tempers. The century also came when he tapped Ali for a single to complete it off 124 balls.

It is believed Trevor Bayliss, who watched his side chase 306 to beat Bangladesh in the opening group game on Thursday, will turn to a like-for-like replacement with Steven Finn or Toby Roland-Jones tipped to join the squad.

Even Morgan's unequivocal support could not get him out of his rut, an attempted flick over short fine-leg simply bringing an outstanding catch from Mustafizur Rahman - with just a single to his name.

"After Tamim got out, then Mushfiqur, the next ball, that was the problem for us".

Not known as a big-hitter, Root later lofted Rubel Hossain for a straight six and ended the match with a four off Mossadek Hossain.
