Pendley's 3-run homer helps Oklahoma top Baylor 6-3 in WCWS

Pendley's 3-run homer helps Oklahoma top Baylor 6-3 in WCWS

She's a determined blank slate, zoned in to the task at hand without showing even a hint of her inner monologue.

The Baylor Lady Bears (46-12) begin double elimination bracket play with the Oklahoma Sooners tonight at 8:30 p.m. CT in the Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. Baylor's contest with the Sooners will be nationally televised on ESPN2, while fans can also listen online or tune in to ESPN Central Texas to hear the radio call from Dan Ingham.

Nicole Pendley hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and Oklahoma opened defense of its national title with a 6-3 victory over Baylor on Thursday night. Barnhill said the runs helped her relax. "We know what we're up against. We got out of that inning with just the one run, which that was on me, of course".

Oklahoma's Maddison Kettler had three hits and Lindsey Cargill had two for Baylor (48-14).

What does all this mean for OU's opening WCWS game on Thursday night: Advantage Sooners.

"As a coach, there is no great gift you can give your players than to take them to the greatest place in college softball".

Macey Hatfield had two hits and Fale Aviu knocked in two runs for the Sooners (57-9). The Gators reloaded the bases with two outs in the second inning.

Early on, the Sooners' offense picked up an uncharacteristically sloppy defense. OR and Washington play tonight at 6:00, with OU and Baylor being the late game.

Quinn had two hits and Emily Griggs scored a run for the Tigers (49-20).

Curry, Durant power Warriors past Cavs
However, now that Durant is on the Warriors, that means that the Cavs have to decide who LeBron would most effective guarding. Cleveland lost Game 1 and Game 2 past year which may or may not prove to be a good omen.

Last year's WCWS MOP Paige Parker has been lights-out down the stretch and enters OKC with a tiny 1.29 ERA and 23 wins.

"The tone got set early and pretty much stayed there", Gasso said.

Coming off back-to-back wins against Auburn, the Sooners looked to keep their streak going in the WCWS.

OU's defense recovered after that inning before committing two more errors in the top of the seventh.

Baylor responded with a run in the second off Parker (24-5) as Oklahoma made a pair of errors.

Two pitches later, Pendley, who has 14 RBIs in the postseason, sent the pro-OU crowd into a frenzy with the three-run long ball to make it 4-0. But again, Baylor creates that on us. Way to make us proud. She was tough on herself for the rough start. The out seemed to settle the Sooners as Lowary forced the next batter into a fielder's choice, fielded by Clifton.

"Obviously, we're disappointed in the game", said Baylor coach Glenn Moore.

It wasn't a clean game for Patty Gasso's bunch.

It also highlighted the power and offensive capabilities of the Shelby's, junior first baseman Shelby Friudenberg and freshman utility player Shelby "Goose" McGlaun, both of whom had key home runs in helping Baylor clinch a spot in the World Series.
