Why China is stepping up against climate change


The study makes worst-case assumptions that may inflate the cost of meeting US targets under the Paris accord while largely ignoring the economic benefits to USA businesses from building and operating renewable energy projects. Donald Trump said that nations such as China and India are benefiting the most from the Paris Agreement.

Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert tweeted that the Chancellor was "disappointed" by Trump's decision, adding: "Now more than ever we will work for global climate policies that save our planet".

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and top officials from the European Union are on Friday set to reaffirm their commitment to a landmark climate change agreement, a day after President Donald Trump said he was pulling the United States out of the Paris accord. Hundreds of companies had lobbied the Trump administration to remain in the agreement.

"She said that the Paris Agreement provides the right global framework for protecting the prosperity and security of future generations, while keeping energy affordable and secure for our citizens and businesses".

Speaking to European business leaders alongside Li, Juncker said EU-China ties are underpinned by "a rules-based global system".

Obama had committed the U.S.to contributing $3 billion to the fund, which aims to help developing countries adapt to climate change and develop low-emission energy technologies. "We can not overlook the fact that climate change remains one of the biggest environmental risks to humanity". Climate change is real.

THE FACTS: This study was paid for by two groups that have long opposed environmental regulation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Council for Capital Formation.
